Mandlstraße Registry Office Munich Getting Married | Guide 2025/26

Getting married at the Standesamt Mandlstraße in Munich:
Everything you need to know!

As a wedding photographer in Munich, I have often photographed weddings at the Standesamt Mandlstraße 14 in Munich-Schwabing – one of the city’s most popular locations for civil ceremonies: classic, quiet, right by the English Garden and at the same time easily accessible. Here you will find all the information you need for your planning: costs, dates, appointment booking, directions, contact, smart tips and a great photo location recommendation for afterwards. All facts about dates, fees and conditions come from the official information of the City of Munich and are up to date. Sources are linked where applicable.

Costs

Usage fee ceremony hall Mandlstraße (weekdays): 60 Euro

Usage fee Mandlstraße on Saturdays (special dates): 160 Euro

Maximum number of people (incl. couple and witnesses): 30 people

Appointments

Regular ceremony times at Mandlstraße:

-Monday and Wednesday: 8:45–12:00

-Thursday: 10:30–15:00

-Friday: 8:45–12:00 and 13:30–15:00

-Saturday: There are additionally a few Saturdays per year that are allocated through the city’s allocation system (lottery for special venues). The city lists example dates on the official page. Source: City of Munich – Civil Ceremonies.

Tip: Try to secure the last slot of the day. It can certainly be busy at Mandlstraße. However, if you have the last appointment and exit after the civil ceremony, there are no further guests or other couples at the entrance. That way you can use the building for 1–2 photos in peace.

How do I get an appointment
at the registry office on Mandelstraße?

1

Registering the marriage

Requirement: At least one person must have their main or secondary residence in Munich (otherwise register at your place of residence first; a ceremony in Munich is then possible).

Registration and all details: City of Munich – Civil Ceremonies

2

Booking an appointment

Weekday appointments at Mandlstraße 14: bookable after registration.

Saturday appointments/”special venues” (Mandlstraße, Neues Rathaus, Schloss Nymphenburg): allocated by lottery with an application deadline. The city publishes deadlines, postal address and drawing weeks on the official page: official information including allocation system.

3

Secure a plan B

Since special venues are in high demand, the city recommends reserving a regular appointment in parallel (e.g. Ruppertstraße 11 or Mandlstraße 14 on weekdays) in case the lottery does not work out. Source: City of Munich.

Tip: Book realistically early after your registration. Particularly popular months (May–September) fill up quickly.

Tips & Tricks from experience

Latest appointment of the day:

If possible, take the latest slot. This minimizes encounters with other wedding parties in the entrance/hallway and gives you more calm during the exit for congratulations and group photos.

Mini schedule with buffer

Always allow 20 extra minutes for arriving, gathering, taking off coats, last checks of rings/IDs.

Double-check documents

Even small discrepancies in names/spellings or missing translations/apostilles can quickly cause stress. Check documents early against the city’s checklist.

Music and atmosphere

Ceremonies in Munich tend to be rather compact. If music is important to you, clarify in advance whether and how you can play playlists. That makes the ceremony feel more personal. A piano player can also be booked.

Champagne reception “made easy”

Space on site is limited. Often a short walk into the English Garden for a small reception is the more relaxed solution – please take your trash with you and avoid glass bottles where possible.

Photo location afterwards: Königsplatz

After the ceremony I recommend taking group photos directly in front of the registry office – if there is enough space. For the couple shoot afterwards, Königsplatz is ideal: architecturally impressive, clean and urban-elegant, easily reachable from Mandlstraße and perfect for calm couple portraits (see photos further below).
